Seth Maury to Supervise Sherlock Holmes Sequel for MPC

MPC is delighted to announce the addition of Seth Maury as VFX Supervisor at its Vancouver studio.  

Seth joins the Vancouver team from Sony Pictures Imageworks in LA where he most recently worked on Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’.  He relocates from LA to the burgeoning VFX hub in Vancouver; ‘…The move to Vancouver is exciting, I have been watching the industry here develop over recent years with interest. MPC as a major global player had the vision to open here three years ago, and it was that vision coupled with their slate of projects and their truly global network that made the move an easy decision’ explains Seth.  He is currently VFX Supervisor for ‘Sherlock Holmes 2’. He enhances an already global team; with key talent attracted to MPC Vancouver from each of the established VFX centres.  Working alongside Seth, MPC Vancouver’s international team of Supervisors now includes; Guillaume Rocheron, ex MPC (UK) and Buf (France), Matt Welford, ex Weta (NZ), as well as established home grown talent such as our very own Erik Nordby.

Bios;Seth MauryMPC Vancouver announces the arrival of VFX Supervisor Seth Maury, formerly of Sony Pictures Imageworks.  Seth’s first gig for MPC will be supervising the VFX for Sherlock Holmes two.

An accomplished Digital Effects Supervisor, Seth recently completed Alice in Wonderland, during which he was responsible for creative and technical delivery of outsourced content at multiple locations, as well as an in-house crew producing elements and final comps.  Prior to Alice, Seth supervised digital production on approximately 1300 shots for G-Force developing a show-specific colour correction pipeline, managing QC through to DI delivery.  Past projects include Monster House, Spiderman 2, and Big Fish, for which he was a BAFTA Nominee (2004) for Achievement in Special Visual Effects.

A fifteen-year veteran of the visual effects industry, Seth hails from New York.  He graduated from Stanford University (BS Mech Eng) and embarked upon an engineering career before being lured to VFX after seeing Jurassic Park.

Guillaume RocheronGuillaume Rocheron began his career in 2000 at BUF in France where he started as a 3D Generalist /Artist.  During his time at Buf he became one of the senior members of the studio involved in many of the projects that transformed the company from a small facility to one of the biggest studios in France.

Guillaume moved to MPC Vancouver in the spring of 2009 where he has been VFX Supervisor on Percy Jackson & the Olympians; The Lightening Thief, Sucker Punch and currently Fast and Furious 5.

Guillaume joined MPC London in 2005 as a senior TD in the closing stages of ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’.  After couple of projects as a lead lighting and lookdev TD, he quickly moved to the role of CG Supervisor on 10,000 BC and GI Joe: Rise Of Cobra.

Matt WelfordMatt joined MPC Vancouver in December 2009, and is currently working as VFX Supervisor on Green Lantern.  Other MPC credits include VFX Supervisor (Narnia:  Voyage of the Dawn Treader), Compositing Supervisor (A-Team) and Senior Compositor (Percy Jackson and the Olympians).

Prior to MPC, Matt had been the Head of Compositing at Weta Digital, where he worked for nearly a decade.  One of his career highlights at Weta was being responsible for much of the development of the stereo workflow for Avatar, including on-set work for principle photography.  Matt is co-author on the StereoEXR file format and newly developed ‘deep compositing’ techniques employed to make Avatar a reality (both of which he co-presented at SIGGRAPH 2010).  Before Avatar, Matt supervised work on several projects, including sequences on King Kong and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Other credits include District 9, I, Robot and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Matt began his VFX career at Magic Camera / Mill Film, Shepperton Studios, London.  In addition to his MA in Digital Special Effects, Matt also completed training in pyrotechnics and explosives for special effects whilst in New Zealand.

Erik NordbyErik started his career 15 years ago as an Inferno artist & quickly moved into compositing feature films. Erik worked his way through the ranks as Lead Compositor and Compositing Supervisor to his current role as VFX Supervisor based in Vancouver where he has become a strong and dynamic member of the MPC team.  Most recently he has supervised the location’s work on projects including The A-Team, Ramona & Beezus and The Big Year.

As a complement to his VFX work Erik has worked as a cinematographer, shooting throughout North America. This experience has enabled a fusion to develop between the two disciplines producing a unique appreciation for form and light.
