Sesame Workshop, Discovery Kids Launch Original Show in Latin America

Press Release from Sesame Workshop

(MIAMI, FL and NEW YORK, NY; June 16, 2009) -- PLAZA SESAMO's beloved new friend Abby Cadabby is spreading her fairy wings and flying over to 3, 2, 1 VAMOS!, an original half-hour preschool program premiering on June 22 on Discovery Kids Latin America. 321 VAMOS will feature segments from beloved children's shows PLAY WITH ME SESAME and GLOBAL GROVER and introduce children in Latin America to BERT AND ERNIE'S GREAT ADVENTURES, Sesame Workshop's first all claymation series.

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind PLAZA SESAMO and VILA SESAMO, has worked with Discovery Kids Latin America to co-create 52 x 30 minute episodes of 3, 2, 1 VAMOS! which will air over the next two years. Each episode of 3, 2, 1 VAMOS! will be hosted by Abby Cadabby who will invite the audience to play, cheer on her friends between segments and say goodbye at the conclusion of the show.

Children in Latin America will want to get up and play, dance and sing along with their friends on PLAY WITH ME SESAME, an interactive series that encourages audience participation to learn and reinforce important math and literacy schools in preparation for school and life. Through GLOBAL GROVER, they will share a glimpse into what children all over the world have in common as they watch Grover travel to far-off places. And while watching BERT AND ERNIE'S GREAT ADVENTURES, preschoolers will enjoy the humor and friendship between Bert and Ernie as the dynamic duo travels the world (and beyond!) solving problems and practicing exploration skills. However, the fun doesn't stop there.

From July through November, Walk Around Abby Cadabby will travel through Latin America to a series of events hosted by Discovery Kids during which 3, 2, 1 VAMOS! fans will have the opportunity to meet the show's beloved host, Abby Cadabby! Abby's tour begins in Mexico where she will travel to San Luis Potosi, Puebla, Merida and Estado Mexico. She will also appear in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil, as well as Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"No matter where you live, learning letters and numbers is easier and more fun when you're learning along with friends," said Renee Mascara, Sesame Workshop's Vice President of International TV Distribution. "For nearly 40 years, Sesame Workshop has been reaching children across six continents with creative, original content, and we are pleased to work with our partners and friends at Discovery Kids who make it easier and more fun for us to extend our mission to bring these concepts to children throughout Latin America."

"We are thrilled to take the Sesame experience to the next level by having Sesame content for the first time ever in Brazil", said Bilai Joa Silar, Vice President and Channel Director for Discovery Kids. "I am very happy that by developing content together, we can continue to expand our relationship and jointly deliver programming that aligns with our network's core values of creating life longer learners".
