After launching just one week ago, the SESAME STREET Podcast is the most downloaded video on iTunes. Since the launch on Sept. 18th, SESAME STREET fans are continuing to download the weekly video podcast based on the award-winning preschool series produced by Sesame Workshop.
Fans can go to www.sesameworkshop.org/podcasts or the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) to download their free podcast featuring Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar and everyone's favorite Sesame Street Muppets, along with A-list celebrities including Jon Stewart, Matt Lauer, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Brown. The newest episode, available on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd, will feature Conan O'Brien and the word "dog." The initial sponsor of the SESAME STREET Podcast is American Greetings, one of the world's largest manufacturers of social expression products.
"We are so excited to see that our fans are embracing this fun and convenient new way to experience SESAME STREET," said Gary E. Knell, President/CEO, Sesame Workshop. "This podcast is a natural extension of the show's mission and an example of how SESAME STREET is continually evolving to help children, no matter where they are, develop a love of learning."
"The response that Sesame Workshop has seen so far confirms our prior research. Busy parents on the go are happy to have engaging, educational content available for their children wherever they may be and whenever they may have time for viewing," added Glenda Revelle, Ph.D., VP for Research/Creative Development and Digital Media at Sesame Workshop.
"Having been a partner with Sesame Street for more than 10 years we are well aware of the great work that they do for children around the world," said Mike Brown, VP of Licensing for American Greetings. "We see the podcast as a terrific opportunity to partner with Sesame Workshop to provide parents and children with great educational content."
All of the episodes are free, easy to use and are designed to educate and entertain audiences of all ages. Viewers can sign-up to have the five minute weekly podcast automatically delivered to their video enabled iPods or other portable media players.
Each five-minute episode -- newly created for the podcast -- features scenes from current and past SESAME STREET seasons as well as animation and live-action films. In keeping with Sesame Street's focus on literacy and vocabulary for its current 38th season, the first podcast episodes will feature the new "What's the Word on the Street?" segments in which people and animals introduce and define the week's "Word on the Street." To help reinforce language development, 26 new words, such as "tricycle," "predicament," and "squid" are featured to expand a child's vocabulary and give them the tools to strengthen their literacy skills.
