A Serbian Film Banned in Spain

A San Sebastian court has issued a provisional injunction against the graphic horror film A SERBIAN FILM, reports Variety.

A San Sebastian court has issued a provisional injunction against the graphic horror film A SERBIAN FILM, reports Variety. Since its debut screening at Cannes, the film has created a lightning storm of debate over its depiction of sex and violence, including newborn and child rape and necrophilia.

The injunction came four hours before Srdan Spasojevic's debut film was set to screen at San Sebastian's Fantasy and Terror Film Week. In addition to being pulled from that event, the film will no longer screen at festivals in Molins de Rei and Malaga.

Spain's Catholic Confederation of Family and Student Parents (Concapa) requested the injunction. The court still needs to decide whether to permanently ban the film.

In the U.K., the British Board of Film Classification demanded 49 cuts, rendering the film 4 ½ minutes long, to garner an 18 certification, the U.K.'s R-rating.

Revolver Entertainment holds the U.K. rights with Accent taking the Australian rights. London-based Jinga Films is repping the film at AFM.

The film revolves around a down-on-his-luck ex-porn star that agrees to be in an "art" porn, which turns out to be the worst snuff film of all time.
