SeaQuest Star & Aladdin Voice Actor Brandis Dead By Suicide

Jonathan Brandis, who landed numerous roles as a child actor in television, commercials and film, including THE NEVERENDING STORY 2: THE NEXT CHAPTER, SEAQUEST DSV and was the voice of Mozenrath on DISNEYS ALADDIN TV series (1993), took his own life at the age of 27 and died Nov. 12, 2003 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Police report a friend of Brandis called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on Nov. 11 to report Brandis had attempted suicide. Paramedics took Brandis to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he died the next day, police Detective Gene Parshall said. The autopsy investigation ruled his death a suicide by hanging, it was announced Nov. 25. However, the young actor did not leave a note, confusing friends and fans as to his motive.

Born April 13, 1976 in Danbury, Connecticut, Brandis got his start at age six, when he landed a recurring role on the soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE and appeared in numerous commercials. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at age nine, and made guest appearances on shows such as L.A. LAW, WHO'S THE BOSS? and MURDER, SHE WROTE.

Other film credits included the Rodney Dangerfield comedy LADYBUGS, and the martial arts comedy SIDEKICKS with Chuck Norris, and a small part in the 2002 film HART'S WAR, starring Bruce Willis.

Brandis became a teen idol when he starred as crewmember Lucas Wolenczek in the Steven Spielbergs underwater sci-fi series SEAQUEST DSV.
