Screen Gems Fights with Tekken & Werewolf by Night

Steven Paul's Crystal Sky and Sony's Screen Gems are set to adapt videogame classic TEKKEN into a feature film, reports VARIETY. Budgeted at $50 million, the film is scheduled to start production this fall. For Crystal Sky, this is one of two properties picked up in turnaround from Dimension. The second begins with Marvel's WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, which Paul will produce with Marvel Studios' Avi Arad.

Sony will release TEKKEN in North America, Latin America and Australia. Gaga will handle the Japanese distribution. Crystal Sky has not yet announced how it will handle the rest of the international release of the pic.

The Namco game's story follows two childhood friends who enter a worldwide martial arts tournament and discover secrets within the mysterious Tekken Corp. Charles Stone (MR. 3000) will direct as well as rewrite the script from Michael Colleary and Mike Werb (FACE/OFF). Paul will produce alongside Crystal Sky president Benedict Carver. Exec producers include Gaga ceo Tetsu Fujimura and Namco chairman Masaya Nakamura. Columbia TriStar's Gary Hirsch made the deal with Crystal Sky finance president Joe Inga.
