Press Release from Galerie Arludik

[Paris, October 14, 2011] Esteemed French auction house Cornette de Saint Cyr will hold its much-anticipated sale of contemporary art to collectors from around the world on October 23, 2011 in Druot-Montaigne during the FIAC festival of modern art in Paris.

This sale is particularly prestigious, including works by Warhol, Arman, Cesar, Buren, Calder and Basquiat.  It is also notable for being the first to integrate works from modern entertainment artists, represented by Galerie Arludik (http://www.arludik.com) in Paris.

Highlighting artists from animation, video games, manga, movies and comics, Galerie Arludik honors the original creators of the world’s most popular icons.  While the artists’ works are known worldwide, their names are still too often overlooked. Thus, an original sculpture of the famous squirrel, "Scrat" from Blue Sky/Fox Films’ Ice Age saga, will take its place among the other modern masterpieces in the auction.

Created by artist and sculptor Michael Defeo, who, for over 12 years led the sculpture department of Blue Sky Studios and who helped bring Scrat to life, this one-of-a-kind interpretation is close to one meter in size, made of resin and painted by hand.  This iconic image of the squirrel chasing his nut, eyes bulging and claws out, speaks to a global audience; and as the sculpture is in two separate, hand-carved pieces, it will allow the fortunate collector to position Scrat and the nut of his dreams, as far (or as close) as is desired.

Also included in the auction are digital paintings from the celebrated master of Chinese manga, Benjamin, and oil paintings by Devin Crane, an American artist who, working for Dreamworks, helped to create the films Shrek and Kung Fu Panda.  The strength, scope and style of these artists represent the joie de vivre and talent hosted by Galerie Arludik, and their inclusion among modern masters completes the theme of Cornette de Saint Cyr’s prestigious sale.

Mike Defeo and Benjamin are subjects of an illustrated biography in the book Art Ludique, recently released by Sontaine Editions.
