The Thanksgiving holiday weekend worked some magic for HARRY POTTER, but didn't add up to treasure for Disney's latest animated effort. Debuting on Wednesday, November 27, Disney's animated adventure TREASURE PLANET opened in fourth place with $16.5M, barely edging out the holiday's other animated debut, Adam Sandler's EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS, which earned $15.1M over the four-day weekend for fifth place. There was a lot of competition in the family film arena this Thanksgiving, with SANTA CLAUSE 2, featuring visual effects by GVFX and Tippet Studios, still going strong in third place earning $12.3M for a total of $113.9M. And HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS, with primary visual effects by ILM, regained the top spot this holiday weekend earning $32.1M to break the $200M mark in just three weeks in release. Coming in second was number twenty in the James Bond series, DIE ANOTHER DAY, with visual effects by Cinesite. The spy actioner took in $31M for a cume of $106M. Another Thanksgiving weekend debut was SOLARIS, with visual effects by Cinesite. The sci-fi thriller earned a lackluster $9.5M over the four-day weekend.
