Süperfad Winds Down

Design and production studio Süperfad, with offices in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and London, closes its doors.

Süperfad, a design and production studio with offices in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, and London, will be winding down its operations, according to a report by the UK’s Stash, which quotes an unnamed source from within the company: “The partners wanted to do different things and couldn’t work out a deal.”

Founded by Geraint Owen and Will Hyde, Süperfad began as a small motion graphics company in Seattle in 2001. The company expanded to New York in 2003, and opened an office in Los Angeles in 2005, with Kevin Batten and Justin Leibow joining as partners. In 2007, Süperfad opened its first European office in London.

Some of the most well-known campaigns Süperfad has produced include Visa's 2008 Summer Olympics campaign, PlayStation 3's “Universe of Entertainment,” Honda's “Crave,” Durex's “Get It On,” Diet Pepsi's “56 States,” and Sprint's “What's Happening Now.”

In 2005, Superfad was awarded the prestigious Silver Lion at the Cannes Film Festival for its short film, “The Best Cigarette,” commissioned by The Sundance Channel.

PlayStation 3 “Universe of Entertainment” and Target “Art Connects” won AICP Awards in 2008 and have been entered into the permanent collection at MoMA in New York.

The viral spot, Durex “Get It On” received a gold Clio for Viral Marketing and a silver Clio for animation. It has also been honored with four AICP awards (Humor, Viral, Low-Budget, and Sound Design) as well as a Bronze Lion at Cannes 2009.
