Culver City, CA --
Culver City/Vancouver-based visual effects house Zoic Studios has signed veteran VFX Supervisor and Flame Artist Robert Moggach. Moggach brings his expertise in assembling teams of A-level talent for colossal visual effects projects to Zoic’s commercial division. He has over 15 years of visual effects experience and has worked for top studios including Asylum, Method, Digital Domain, The Mill, Smoke & Mirrors, and comes to Zoic from his own Toronto-based creative studio Dashing Collective. With an extensive background in animation, CG, compositing and VFX supervision, he has worked on commercials with some of the industry’s top directors including Rupert Sanders, Michael Mann, David Fincher, Dante Ariola, Tom Kuntz, Chris Sargent, Chris Palmer, Ridley Scott and the late Tony Scott, among many others.
His photo-real journey into the mind of a young training recruit propelled into battle in the branded short “The Life” for Halo ODST, directed by Rupert Sanders, won numerous 2010 industry awards including a VES Award, a CLIO, a Cannes Lion and a London International Advertising Award.
Says Moggach, “Zoic is so well equipped technically that my work leading teams of artists becomes an easier and more fluid experience without being distracted by rebuilding inefficient workflows. I’m inspired to be a part of a truly independent company that shares my spirit of innovation and doing what it takes to get it done right. It’s exciting to join a studio with such an impressive infrastructure and pipeline and be able to focus on the craftsmanship.”
Says Zoic’s Executive Creative Director/Co-Founder Chris Jones, “Rob’s impressive body of work speaks for itself and we are fortunate to have him join us at a time where our focus on commercial advertising for the LA studio has never been stronger.” Adds Zoic’s Commercials Executive Producer Cally Morton, “We’re so excited to have Robert joining the Zoic family. He brings a wealth of production experience along with his creative expertise. Rob’s one of the best artists I know.”
Looking to marry his penchant for photography and his technical prowess in animation, Moggach dove into the VFX industry immediately after studying film, photography and animation in Toronto. After five years working as a CG and flame artist, he moved to London where his advertising career started at Smoke & Mirrors, eventually leaving to split time between Los Angeles and London working for many of the industry’s top shops. His contributions can be seen in major campaigns for such brands as Nike, Levi’s, Mercedes, Pepsi, Coke, Toyota, Adidas, Xbox and Sony PS3, among numerous others. He has also lent his talents to the music video world, bringing a filmic and photo-real look to any cg-enhanced content in videos for the likes of Muse, Moby, System of a Down, Tori Amos and Garbage.
Moggach is multi-disciplined with skills as a Creative Director, VFX Supervisor, Flame & Nuke Compositor, CG Artist, Software Developer, Animator, FX TD and Designer. He has contributed to feature films such as Transformers, Apocalypto, Pirates of the Caribbean, I, Robot, Harry Potter, Master & Commander – Far Side of the World and The Ring. His work has garnered numerous awards from industry organizations including VES, CLIO, Cannes Lions, LIA, Andy’s and AICP as well as an Emmy nomination for Best Commercial for Mercedes “Modern Ark” directed by Gerard de Thame.
