Resident Evil 4 Has Life at U.S. Box Office

Screen Gems' RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE rose in first place at the U.S. box office for the weekend of Sept. 10-12, 2010.

Screen Gems' RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE rose in first place at the U.S. box office for the weekend of Sept. 10-12, 2010. With visual effects from Anibrain, Mr. X, Paul Jones Effects Studio and XYZ-RGB, the zombie apocalypse flick earned $27.7 million.

Screen Gems also took the second spot as its TAKERS moved up from third to second, making another $6.1 million. The heist thriller has a cume of $48.1 million.

Focus Feature's THE AMERICAN shot into third with $5.9 million. With vfx from Modus FX, the moody assassin tale has total box office receipts of $26.7 million.

Fox's MACHETE fell from second to fourth, collecting an additional $4.2 million. With vfx from Troublemaker Studios, the illegal immigrant adventure has smuggled in $20.8 million.

Holding strong at #5, New Line's romantic comedy GOING THE DISTANCE brought in $3.84 million, lifting its cume to $14 million.

Sony's THE OTHER GUYS jumped up one slot to #6, making another $3.6 million. The buddy cop comedy has brought in $112 million thus far.

Lionsgate's THE LAST EXORCISM fell to seventh, scaring up an additional $3.45 million. With vfx from Gradient Effects, the horror film has a cume of $38.2 million.

In eighth, Lionsgate's THE EXPENDABLES rescued $3.25 million. With vfx from Fantasy II Film Effects, the "geezers with guns" actioner has collected a total of $98.5 million.

Warner Bros.'s INCEPTION stole $3.02 million in ninth. With vfx from Double Negative, the dream thriller has amassed $282.4 million to date.

Sony's EAT PRAY LOVE finished out the top ten with $2.9 million. The globetrotting romance has a cume of $74.6 million.
