Animation history in Asia started in the 1940s and was heavily influenced by the needs of western studios. Exposure to foreign production, training abroad and foreign assistance were important factors behind the emergence of an animation tradition in countries such as China, Japan, Korea and India, according to the publisher. Pioneer animators, such as Payut Ngaokrachang of Thailand (influenced by American cartoonist Max Fleischer), Tezuka of Japan, James Wang of Taiwan and Shin Dong Hun of Korea were known as the Walt Disney of these countries.
