The Recruit Falls In At Number One

Three new films took the top three spots at this weekend's U.S. box office, with the action film THE RECRUIT debuting at number one with $16.5M. Right on THE RECRUIT's heels is FINAL DESTINATION 2, with visual effects by Pixel Magic. The thriller sequel arrived in second place on its debut with $16.2M. In third place was DreamWorks' motorcycle racing flick BIKER BOYZ, with primary visual effects by R!OT, earning $10.1M. KANGAROO JACK is still proving popular at the box office, slipping just two spots to fourth place. The Down Under comedy, with visual effects by Asylum and The Secret Lab, ran off with $9M in its third week for a cume of $45.8M. Last week's number one film DARKNESS FALLS, with visual effects by Animal Logic and Sony Pictures Imageworks, slipped all the way to fifth in its second weekend out, earning just $7.5M for a total of $22.3M. THE TWO TOWERS' $5M weekend was good enough for seventh place. The second film in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, with primary visual effects by Weta Digital, has earned $315.9M to date, surpassing the domestic gross of its predecessor, 2001's THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, which earned a total of $313.4M.
