Real Steel Knocks Out Box Office Competition

Sony's THE IDES OF MARCH was voted into second place in its debut weekend. With vfx from Method Studios and Tyrrell FX & Rentals, the George Clooney political thriller earned $10.4 million.

Warner Bros.' DOLPHIN TALE surfaced in third with $9.16 million. The inspirational true-life story has swum away with $49.1 million to date.

Sony's MONEYBALL rounded the bases to end up in fourth with $7.5 million. With vfx from Rhythm and Hues, the Billy Beane biopic has brought in $49.3 million thus far.

Summit Ent.'s 50/50 stayed steady at #5, raising another $5.5 million. With vfx from Wildfire Visual Effects, the cancer dramedy has a cume of $17.3 million.

TriStar's COURAGEOUS arrived in sixth place with $4.6 million. The cop drama has a box office total of $15.9 million.

THE LION KING dropped from third to seventh, adding $4.55 million to its $86 million 3-D cume.

Universal's DREAM HOUSE haunted the eighth spot with $4.5 million. With vfx from Gradient Effects, the Daniel Craig starrer has a cume of $14.5 million.

Fox's WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER? dialed up a place in ninth with $3.05 million. With vfx from Wildfire Visual Effects, the romcom has made $10.3 million to date.

Lionsgate's ABDUCTION rounded out the top ten, bringing in $2.9 million. With vfx from Asylum VFX, Kerner Optical, Method Studios and The Third Floor, the Taylor Lautner thriller has earned $23.4 million.
