Rainmaker Wins Gemini for Stargate Atlantis

Rainmaker Visual Effects' lead team on STARGATE ATLANTIS has won "Best Visual Effects" awards at the 22nd Annual Gemini Industry Awards. Their efforts were rewarded for work on "No Man's Land," the season three premiere episode of STARGATE ATLANTIS (SCI FI Channel). The other nominees in the category were ABOVE AND BEYOND and THE GREAT CANADIAN POLAR BEAR ADVENTURE.

Rainmaker's winning team includes Debora Dunphy, digital effects supervisor; Tom Brydon, 3D animator; and former staffer Todd Liddiard, compositor. Rainmaker's team shares the award with STARGATE ATLANTIS' Visual Effects Supervisor Mark Savela and Visual Effects Coordinator Shannon Gurney. Also on the winning roster from Atmosphere Visul Effects are Andrew Karr, digital supervisor; Brenda Campbell, lead compositor; and Alec McClymont, lead animator.

"We are so proud of Debora, Tom and Todd and our entire support team at Rainmaker. We're very honored to be contributing to the legendary STARGATE series," said Marianne O'Reilly, president, Rainmaker Visual Effects. "Also, Debora has emerged as one of our leading 'eyes' within the company, creating terrific effects on STARGATE ATLANTIS. It's very gratifying to see a female digital effects supervisor who has proven her artistic talent honored with this award."

This was the first Gemini Award for Dunphy and Liddiard and a second for Brydon.

The 22nd annual Gemini Awards (www.geminiawards.ca) will culminate with the Gala Awards on Oct. 28 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
