Rai Fiction receives nominations for six titles across six categories for the 2014 Pulcinella Awards at Italy’s Cartoons by the Bay.

‘Tip the Mouse’

Six titles produced by Rai Fiction have received nominations in as many categories of the 2014 Pulcinella Awards, the international TV animation competition of Cartoons on the Bay, which this year takes place for the first time in Venice April 10-12.

They are: Tip the Mouse, The Extraordinary Adventures of Jules Verne, Linkers, The Mission of 3P, A Skeleton Story and The Ballad of Prince Charming. These are complemented by the nine new productions in the Panorama section, for a total of 15 titles in the Official Selection, nearly all being screened for the first time.

Produced by Studio Bozzetto, Tip the Mouse, in competition in the Pre-school Series category, is a series based on the publishing success of the same name translated into over 28 languages. The hero is a delightful mouse, created by Andrea Dami and drawn by Marco Campanella, who, like most children, is a little naughty at times.

Linkers has been selected for the Teens category. This is a cross-media series set inside a videogame and offering breath-taking adventures in a virtual world. A scenario that is bound to enthuse the most demanding teenage audiences.

Rai’s candidate in the Best Series Pilot category is A Skeleton Story, a project based on the graphic novel of the same name written by Alessandro Rak (also director of the film The Art of Happiness) and Andrea Scoppetta: a fantasy thriller set in a highly imaginative world. An International production developed in Naples.

Among the five candidates in the Best Short Film category, The Ballad of Prince Charming by Mattia Francesco Laviosa, taken from the new series of the “Toons ‘n’ Tunes,” a sparkling interpretation of one of the hits from the song competition organised by the Institute of Antoniano in Bologna. One of 13 new shorts making up the 10th season of the series, set to premiere on TV.

Another candidate in the Kids category, The Extraordinary Adventures of Jules Verne, has already successfully aired by Rai Due and Rai Gulp, which features animated versions of some of the greatest classics of juvenile literature.

Finally, competing in the Social and Educational Works, The Mission of 3P, the TV special dedicated to the memory of Father Pino Puglisi, the Palermo priest murdered by the mafia, which premiered in last edition.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 12, 2014.
