Powers Takes On New Marketing Role For TOKYOPOP Inc.

John Powers joins TOKYOPOP Inc. in Los Angeles as vp of marketing for North America's leading graphic novel publisher and a growing force in international entertainment with its numerous anime titles.

Powers will use his extensive experience in the consumer packaged goods and entertainment industries to increase TOKYOPOP's brand awareness and drive the company's marketing initiatives. He has developed and executed strategic marketing plans for new consumer products, brands and technologies with companies such as Warner Bros., Gemstar-TV Guide, Pepsi Cola and Johnson & Johnson. As WB's vp of DVD market development-worldwide, Powers and his marketing team launched the home entertainment industry's most successful new packaged media format. As Gemstar-TV Guide's vp of strategic marketing, he developed the marketing plans for TV GUIDE'S introduction of an interactive set-top box program guide.

Founded in 1996, TOKYOPOP (www.tokyopop.com) publishes several hit properties based on popular Cartoon Network and Kids' WB! programs. TOKYOPOP titles include SAILOR MOON, GUNDAM WING, INITIAL D, REAL BOUT HIGH SCHOOL and COWBOY BEBOP. It is also publishing novels based upon Disney TV series KIM POSSIBLE and LIZZIE MCGUIRE. The company recently opened offices in London via a partnership with Red Route Distribution Ltd.
