Portland Gets Animated by Blacklist and WIZZ

Latest Travel Portland campaign from Paris-based WIZZ Design Studios led by director CRCR is Inspired by a collection of would-be Portland-themed ‘zines.’

Endless drizzles of rain, locally sourced coffee shops, towering pine trees, and beards -- glorious beards. These very well might be the things that initially come to mind when one thinks of Portland, Oregon. Of course, there’s much more to see and do in Portland, if you only had a hip friend to show you the way. Cue the latest Travel Portland campaign, a beautifully animated collaboration between Portland’s own Wieden + Kennedy, New York’s Blacklist, and Paris’ WIZZ Design Studios, led by director CRCR.

Inspired by a collection of would-be Portland-themed "zines," Travel Portland has highlighted the city’s signature hand-crafted feel in their campaign. Four spots were created, three focusing in on a different pride of Portland--incredible food, delicious beer, and absolutely zero sales tax for shoppers--with a fourth that ties them all together.

By way of a vivid color palette, lively subjects, and a quirky cartoony tone that jumps out of the frame, CRCR proves that the dream of the ‘90s is definitely still alive and well in Portland -- and in that dream, MTV still has rock & roll videos and odd-ball animated intros to go with them.

As you watch, keep an eye out for famous Portland landmarks like Powell's Books, an unmissable Old Town sign, and, if you look carefully, a glimpse at a Trailhead Coffee Co shipping vessel. Keeping in line with the cutting edge way of the Portland community, the campaign is totally follow-friendly by way of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Using the hashtag #PDXnow and #PDXzines, you can also interact with the travel-inspired movement by posting pictures, sharing experiences, and connecting with others who have also stumbled across this gem of a destination.
