PorchLight Ent. has added BAXTER to its 2005 animation development slate. Always curious and bounding with energy, Baxter the puppy interacts with nature like a child, in environments that are readily accessible to children for example, backyards and parks. Its a world that children can touch and feel through the eyes of their lovable friend and outside their back door.
According to Fred Schaefer, PorchLights svp of animation, BAXTER will open up the world of nature -- from insects, plants, flowers and seeds to weather, geology and ecology -- in a manner that will allow kids and their parents to experience nature together.
Baxters friends include, Becky a rather independent bee with a poor sense of direction; Upsy and Daisy, two field mice who see their world in different ways -- one says the glass is half full and the other sees it as half empty; Twiddle, the cheerful single dad frog and Amanda, his fun-hopping curious daughter; and Lady B, the duchess of lady bugs, who protects her flowers and plants and is constantly on the aphid patrol.
Developed for the preschool audience, parents and caregivers, the series is the creation of Gerry Renert, co-creator/exec producer of TODDWORLD, which airs on TLC and Discovery Kids. The show will be illustrated by accomplished childrens book illustrator, Barry Gott. Liz Stahler, former Price Stern Sloan/Penguin Books editor for the WEE SING property, collaborated closely with both Renert and Gott in concept development.
Bruce Johnson, PorchLights president/coo, said, Our goal is to bring an entertaining series to preschoolers that will give them an early-appreciation of the world of nature and demonstrate in simple terms how nature mirrors many childhoods development experiences.
The series will utilize a curriculum developed by Laurine DiRocco and Linda Rosenblatt (UCLA School of Education) in association with PorchLight. BAXTER will be produced as half-hours utilizing two 11-minute interchangeable segments.
