Pope New NBC Universal Television Studio President

Katherine Pope has been promoted from evp, NBC Ent., to president, NBC Universal Television Studio, and will head one of the country's largest and most successful television production companies, it was announced today by NBC Ent. and NBC Universal Television Studio co-chairmen Marc Graboff and Ben Silverman.

NBC is responsible for more than 15 of television's most critically acclaimed, hit primetime series, including "House"; the Emmy-winning comedy "The Office"; the highest rated new series of the season, "Heroes," and cable hits "Battlestar Galactica" and "Monk," among others.

"I've always admired the work of Katherine Pope," said Silverman. "She is an unbelievable executive. This has always been her dream job, just as the job that I'm now doing has been mine. I'm so excited to have her continue as part of the team at NBC Universal."

Graboff added, "I have been impressed with Katherine Pope's talent for many years and I know she will succeed in this new position. We're looking forward to her continuing to grow our very successful studio."

Pope was named evp of NBC Ent. in January 2006, where she was responsible for all aspects of NBC's new series development, including the fall series LIFE, JOURNEYMAN, BIONIC WOMAN and CHUCK. She also developed and oversees television's top-rated freshman hit, HEROES, and developed the critically acclaimed series, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and 30 ROCK.

Previously, Pope was svp, drama series, NBC Universal Television Studio, since June 2004, following the formation of the newly combined NBC Universal Co. She oversaw the first seasons of HOUSE, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA for SCI FI, and PSYCH for the USA Network.

Before joining the studio, Pope was vp, drama development, NBC Ent., from June 2003 to June 2004, where she presided over the development of all of NBC's new drama pilots, including the hit drama, MEDIUM.

Prior to this, she managed the drama development and current programs for the studio. As vp, primetime series, NBC Studios, she supervised creative development for the hit drama series, LAS VEGAS, CROSSING JORDAN, AMERICAN DREAMS and the Peabody Award-winning BOOMTOWN.

Pope's former positions included director, primetime series, since April 2001, and manager, primetime series, since August 2000. She joined NBC Studios as an associate in primetime series in January 2000.

Pope previously was a writer and producer for VH-1's BEHIND THE MUSIC from May 1999. She also worked as a writer and producer of documentaries for CBS in New York and as an associate producer for A&E'S BIOGRAPHY.
