Indie kids media company Planet Nemo has announced details of its first production. The company has teamed up with Canada-based Subsequence Ent. to co-produce a new preschool series called BALI, which will be pitched at Cartoon Forum Kolding, Sept. 21-24, 2005.
The series follows the urban adventures of Bali, a true city dweller, in tune with the concerns and daily challenges faced by todays young children. Both parents work, and Balis dad takes a very active role in handling the familys daily grind. The triumphs and concerns of Bali deal with many of todays social issues for children involving nannies, divorce and little everyday traumas such as going back to school.
Each episode features an original musical score with engaging lyrics and funky rhythms.
The 52x13 series, in traditional 2D animation, is currently in production and has already been picked up by France 5 and Disney Television in France, RTBF in Belgium, RaiSat in Italy, Radio Canada, TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada with delivery commencing spring 2006.
Based on a book series originally published in France, Bali has all the ingredients to become a global childrens classic very charismatic characters, a unique painterly graphic style, funky rythms and cross cultural urban experiences, explained Frédéric Puech, exec producer of BALI.
Planet Nemo controls all rights to the BALI brand internationally and manages all TV distribution, home entertainment, publishing and licensing rights for the property.
