SpongeBob SquarePants, his best starfish buddy and all their fun friends from Bikini Bottom are going on tour across the U.K. in a live action show. The adventure packed musical will premiere at the Hackney Empire on February 3, 2009 and tour the U.K., taking in major cities and theatres from Brighton to Glasgow.

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS -- THE SPONGE WHO COULD FLY -- A NEW MUSICAL! is based upon the television episode "The Sponge Who Could Fly (The Lost Episode)" and features a magical set that transports the audience to SpongeBob's underwater world. The show is a story of courage and coming of age, which tells the tale of SpongeBob's desire to "fly" with the jellyfish of Jellyfish Fields and his persistence in achieving his dream.

Will SpongeBob take flight, or will his dream come crashing down on the ocean floor? It's a tale too exciting to be kept undersea.

The musical was recreated for U.K. audiences by Fiery Angel, the artistic team behind the current hit children's touring musical, LAZYTOWN LIVE! It is written by Steven Banks, head writer and story editor of Nickelodeon's SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, co-producer of the series THE ADVENTURES OF JIMMY NEUTRON, BOY GENIUS and the author of more than 20 children's books.

The musical also features original songs and adaptations from composer/lyricist Eban Schletter, who has written music for numerous film and television shows, including SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, as well as recording for his own label.
