Pirate Anime Adventure Series Debuts on Cartoon Network's Toonami April 23

ONE PIECE, an anime series featuring pirate adventures, makes its U.S. debut on April 23, 2005, during Toonami, Cartoon Network's popular Saturday night action-animé block. New episodes will air back-to-back at 10:00 and 10:30 pm. Set in the age of the greatest pirates who ever lived, ONE PIECE, from 4Kids Ent., follows the Straw Hat Pirates in search of a hidden treasure that once belonged to the legendary Gold Roger.

Just before Gold Roger, known as the "King of the Pirates," let out his final breath, he told of a hidden treasure he had secreted away. Now, pirates from far and wide have set off to the most-treacherous waters in the world to find the treasure, and one of them, the very optimistic Monkey D. Luffy, dreams of being the King of the Pirates. Luffy gained the power to stretch like rubber after eating the cursed fruit called the Gum-Gum, when he was a boy. Although his rubbery body comes in handy during battle, the cursed fruit also left him unable to swim. Despite this one minor setback, the still cheerful Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, board their leaky vessel in search of the treasure.

Toonami, Cartoon Network's popular Saturday night action/anime programming block, airs from 7:00-11:00 pm and features programs, like DRAGON BALL GT, TEEN TITANS, JUSTICE LEAGUE and ZATCH BELL. Toonami is #1 on basic cable in its time period with boys 9-14 in the U.S.
