Pileated Pictures Prides Itself on Animating for PBS’ Between the Lions

Pileated Pictures has completed 16 animated shorts that will open and close for the hit PBS show, BETWEEN THE LIONS, as well as a music video, which will air on several episodes.

The shorts are 30-second mini-rap songs, presenting vocabulary words highlighted within a particular episode. The shows cast of lions raps the lyrics, while Pileateds animation appears in thought bubbles above the big cats heads.

Pileated also animated a longer, 90-second music video for the song, Look It Up, promoting reading and researching libraries. Pileated produced the shorts and video entirely in Flash and then composited the animation with the live action using After Effects.

The Pileated team worked closely with Emmy Award-winning writers Christopher Cerf and Norman Stiles, co-creators/exec producers of BETWEEN THE LIONS, and co-founders of New York-based Sirius Thinking Ltd., which produces the series with PBS affiliate WGBH.

It was an absolute joy to work with Pileated again, said Cerf. We were thrilled with the humor and educational precision they were able to inject into the animation they produced for our show openers, and for our new Look It Up music video. Pileated truly had a major positive impact on the effectiveness of BETWEEN THE LIONS this season.
