Peter Sohn to Direct Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’

The 37-year-old CalArts graduate has been at Pixar for over a decade, having worked as an animator, storyboard artist and voice actor before directing the Pixar short ‘Partly Cloudy.’

Last week Pixar quietly confirmed, via Twitter, that Peter Sohn is officially directing The Good Dinosaur.

The film was initially planned as Up co-director Bob Peterson’s first Pixar film as principal director, but Peterson was removed from the project nine months before release. Then, one month later, Pixar pushed The Good Dinosaur off its May 2014 release date all the way back to November 25, 2015.

Things appear to be back on track as Pixar has finally confirmed the film’s director as Peter Sohn, who was to act as Peterson’s co-director on the project.

A CalArts graduate, the 37-year-old Sohn has been at Pixar for over a decade, having worked as an animator, storyboard artist and voice actor before directing the Pixar short Partly Cloudy. He worked in the art and story departments on Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL·E and Up, and voiced Emile in Ratatouille and Squishy in Monsters University, among other vocal performances.

Check out the teaser video introducing Arlo the dinosaur, below:

In the film, dinosaurs are the dominant species on Earth. One day, a young dinosaur named Arlo (voiced by Lucas Neff) discovers a human toddler, which the family adopts as their pet. Neil Patrick Harris and Judy Greer voice Arlo’s siblings, Cliff and Ivy, and John Lithgow and Frances McDormand voice their parents, Poppa and Momma.

Based on an original story by Enrico Casarosa and Bob Peterson, The Good Dinosaur is due in theaters to November 25, 2015.
