Peter Dougherty New Cartoon Network Branding SVP

Peter Dougherty joins Cartoon Network in the newly created position of svp, branding, responsible for the creative execution and communication of the Cartoon Network brand and its multiple properties to target audiences in the U.S. The includes overseeing the network's on-air environment and franchise presentations; in-house creative services responsible for print, electronic and outdoor advertising and collateral; execution of sponsored promotions, sweepstakes and contests; and creative development for Cartoon Network Enterprises' growing licensing and merchandising business.

CN Department heads of each respective network operation report to Dougherty, including Gary Albright, svp, creative services; Pola Changnon, vp of on-air and exec producer of program production; Sean Akins, creative director, Toonami and Miguzi; and Cynthia Rapp, vp/cd , Cartoon Network Enterprises. Dougherty is in Atlanta and reports to Jim Samples, evp/gm for Cartoon Network U.S.

Dougherty comes to Cartoon Network following an 11-year tenure with MTV Europe (1990-2001), where he began as a producer of on-air campaigns, shorts and series (Yo! MTV Raps), progressing to network cd/svp. He helped expand the MTV pan-European feed into multiple country-specific and regionalized channels, while forging the network's strong youth brand within many diverse cultures. As head of global brand management, Dougherty established and mentored on-air, promotions and licensing & merchandising teams in Munich, London, Milan, Stockholm and Paris.

In 2001, Dougherty struck out on his own as an independent creative consultant, applying his branding and creative direction expertise to varied projects, including Nickelodeon U.S. (Nicktoons), Nickelodeon Int'l (Europe and Asia), MTV and Nickelodeon Japan, Country Music Television (CMT), SPIN (London-based firm representing AMC and MTV) and Telepiu (Italian sports channel).

Dougherty has received 29 top PROMAX and BDA Awards, a Clio (U.S.) and a D&AD Award (U.K.), four New York Film & Television Gold Awards, and 1st Place citations from the Hiroshima Animation Festival, the Holland Animation Festival (Best Leader) and the World Animation Festival (Best Title Sequence).

Overnight from 11:00 pm-6:00 am (ET, PT) Sunday-Thursday, Cartoon Network shares its channel space with Adult Swim, a late-night destination showcasing original and acquired animation for young adults 18-34.
