Multi-hyphenate Tyler Perry has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Perry -- writer, director and star of a series of films include MADEA'S FAMILY REUNION and DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN -- will play the head of the Starfleet Academy. The cast includes Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Leonard Nimoy, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Karl Urban, Chris Hemsworth, Zoe Saldana and Clifton Collins Jr.
The Paramount production was written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who will also serve as exec producers. Producers are Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk.
