Percept Plans Expansion on Eve of Hunuman Premiere

Mumbai-based Percept Holdings, parent company of Percept Picture Company, has announced its intention to set up its own high-end animation studio, reports ANIMATION XPRESS. CEO Preet Bedi said that the company's focus will be on "building in knowledge, ability and experience into the set up." He predicted that the new studio will begin operations by the end of next year. Funding for the project will come from recent stakes acquired by Future Group (12.5%) and Morgan Stanley (10%) in the company.

Percept is the producer of 2005's HANUMAN, the first successful animated feature in India, and the sequel HANUMAN RETURNS, which premieres on Dec. 28. Percept previously unveiled the extensive merchandising campaign that will accompany the new film.

The character of Hanuman, "India's original and only superhero," proved to be immensely popular among all age groups. In the words of Shailendra Singh, Jt MD, Percept Holdings: "Hanuman is an attitude, it is a global phenomenon, it exemplifies selflessness, courage, devotion, energy, strength and righteous conduct."
