Press Release from Entertainment One (eOne)

LONDON – 15th September 2011 – Entertainment One (eOne) has confirmed broadcast and licensing plans for Spain, the latest market to roll-out the pre-school phenomena Peppa Pig – Diviértete con Peppa.

Spain’s national broadcaster RTVE will be launching Peppa Pig Series 1 and 2 as part of its Clan Kids Block in September 2011.  Peppa Pig is scheduled to be shown daily, ensuring exposure 7 days a week on the channel that attracts an average weekly audience of 250,000.  The launch of Peppa Pig on RTVE will be supported by on-channel promotions, presence on the RTVE web site and editorial in its official magazine.  Previously Peppa Pig has been shown on TV Cataluña who has broadcast the series Catalan since 2007.

“We’re delighted to be adding Peppa Pig to RTVE’s schedule of children’s programmes.  It is a high quality show which compliments our current line-up of shows perfectly and I’m sure that it will entertain our existing audience and attract new children and families to our channel.” Says Rafael Bardem, Director of Programmes, Sales & Licensing at RTVE. In a strategic move by the studio, Peppa Pig licensed merchandise will start rolling out in Spain in August 2012 allowing Spanish children, their parents and retailers 12 months to become familiar with the characters and the unique style of the series.

Bandai España has been confirmed as the official toy distributor for the region and will be taking Character Options’ award-winning range of toys, Ty Beanie Babies and SEI Electronic Learning Aids to Spanish retail. In addition, Random House is also on board for publishing and discussions are now underway with local agent El Ocho for licensing agreements in all categories including apparel and footwear, party, puzzles and games and back to school.

Andrew Carley, Head of Licensing at Entertainment One, comments, “With both RTVE and Bandai on board we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Spanish licensing programme. Our approach is always to create long-term opportunities and both RTVE and Bandai understand this fully. Their early commitment once again reflects the growing international appeal of Peppa.”
