David Yates, who helmed the final four HARRY POTTER films, is set to direct the BBC's big screen adaptation of DOCTOR WHO, reports Variety. Yates and BBC Worldwide Prods.' topper Jane Tranter are currently looking for writers.

The famed series follows a highly intelligent alien in human form who teams with Earthlings to fight intergalactic villains across time and space. The original series aired from 1963 to 1989. In 2005, the sci-fi series was rebooted. The new film will start the story over again.

Peter Cushing starred in two previous films — DOCTOR WHO AND THE DALEKS (1965) and DOCTOR WHO: DALEKS' INVASION EARTH 2150 A.D. (1966).
