James Vanderbilt will return to write the sequel for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN for Columbia, reports Heat Vision. Vanderbilt devised the plot for the follow-up. Vanderbilt first started working with Sony on the franchise on SPIDER-MAN 4, which was planned for director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire to continue their trilogy of SPIDEY flicks.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was co-written with Alvin Sargent. Marc Webb is helming the reboot, which stars SOCIAL NETWORK star Andrew Garfield. Avi Arad, Laura Ziskin and Matt Tolmach are the producers. Rachel O'Connor and Hannah Minghella are shepherding for Sony, which will release the film on July 3, 2012.
