Tom Perlmutter

GATINEAU, QUEBEC -- James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, announced the reappointment of Tom Perlmutter as Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) for a term of five years.

“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Perlmutter has agreed to continue to serve with distinction as Head of the National Film Board,” said Minister Moore. “The NFB will continue to benefit from his wealth of experience and leadership. His dedication to the film industry and his commitment to the NFB’s digitization initiative will continue to be highly valuable to the organization.”

Perlmutter has extensive experience in the film industry. Prior to his appointment as Head of the National Film Board, Perlmutter was the Director General of the organization’s English Program (2001–2007). He worked as Executive Producer/Partner of Primitive Entertainment (1999–2001), producing high-end documentaries and new media productions for the domestic and international markets.

He has also held numerous other senior positions in the film industry, including Director of Creative Development at CineNova Productions (1998–1999), Director of Documentaries at Barna-Alper Productions (1995–1998), and Executive Director of Alliance for Children and Television (1993–1995). From 1985 to 1993, he was an independent producer, director, and writer, and from 1983 to 1985 he was the Toronto editor of Cinema Canada.
