Steve Carr, who most recently helmed PAUL BLART: MALL COP, has signed an agreement with Dimension Films to direct SHORT CIRCUIT, the remake of the 1986 sci-fi pic, VARIETY reports.

The remake, which is being scripted by Dan Milano, will bring the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century. In the remake, Johnny 5 develops a conscience and personality after being hit by lightning and he befriends a lonely boy.

David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce alongside John Hyde of Rehab Entertainment. Jason Taragan will executive produce.
