Speed Racer Voice Actor Dies

Peter Fernandez, best known for voicing Speed Racer, died of lung cancer on July 15th in Pomona, NY, reports VARIETY. He was 83 years old.

He started in show business at the age of seven for the radio show CITY ACROSS THE RIVER. At 11, he began working on Broadway. Following his WWII service in the Army, he started writing, directing and voicing English dubs of foreign-language films.

For the English language version of SPEED RACER, he voiced several characters including Racer X. His last voice work was for COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG.

He is survived by his wife Noel, two daughters, a son and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the Wildlife Federation.

There is an inaccuracy in this report: Fernandez's last voice work was for Speed Racer: The Next Generation. He also acted in the 2008 movie, Speed Racer.
