Joel Silver, producer of the comic book adaptation of SGT. ROCK, told the LOS ANGELES TIMES the film's setting is changing course.

Rather than taking place during World War II, the plan now calls for the main character to serve his country in the near future.

"It's a little bit in the future," Silver said. "As a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going.' We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It's not a 'go' movie yet but I'm feeling good about it."

"[Sgt.Rock] and Easy Company live only, and will eventually die, to the last man, in World War II."

Please do not put Sgt. Rock in the future. He is a WWII Sargent and should be kept there. It is inconceivable having him in another theater and time-line of war. If you want a solid story look no further than 'Our Army At War'. The masters were there telling tales that should have seen the silver screen many years ago. In every war movie there is the quintessential 'Sargent'. From Robert Taylor in BATAAN and Wayne in Sands of Iwo Jima to Tom Sizemore Saving Private Ryan, the Sargent in WWII has never had 'his own movie'. Don't destroy this possible franchise and ruin a heroic character like Sgt Rock and desecrate the memories of the men he stood for.
