R!OT Ups Ken Nakada To Director Of VFX

Santa Monica-based visual effects studio R!OT has promoted Ken Nakada to the post of director of visual effects. In his new role, Nakada will oversee all of the studios activities related to the production of visual effects for feature films, episodic television, commercials and music videos. His role will include managing the department, providing creative oversight for current projects and planning for long term growth. Nakada will also continue to perform his previous duties as a matte painter and compositor. Nakada joined R!OT in 2000 and since then he has created digital matte paintings and other visual effects for more than a half-dozen feature films including THE SCORPION KING, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED and THE ONE. He supervised post work on a trailer for PLANET OF THE APES and performed design work FOR MURDER BY NUMBERS, PETER PAN (2003) and the television series SMALLVILLE. Nakada will initially focus on expanding the department to meet the needs of ANGELS IN AMERICA, a 6-hour HBO mini-series for which R!OT is the lead effects provider. "We are embarking on several large scale and creatively demanding projects that will require us to add staff and resources," Nakada said. "Fortunately, we have a very robust infrastructure that lends itself to scaling up quickly. I am very excited about our prospects and the challenges ahead." In addition to ANGELS IN AMERICA, R!OTs current slate of visual effects projects includes SUSPECT ZERO for Paramount Pictures and BIKER BOYZ for DreamWorks.
