Réveillon New EBU Secretary General
Jean Réveillon is now secretary general of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) replacing Jean Stock, who had held the position since October 2001 and who will now be working as special consultant to the president until Dec. 31, 2004.
Arne Wessberg, the EBU President, said he was confident that, "the personal and professional qualities of this extremely experienced professional [Réveillon] will enable him to meet – on behalf of the EBU and its members – all the challenges facing broadcasters in an ever-changing environment."
Réveillon was previously deputy director general/program director at France 3 since December 1999, after serving as director general/head of programming at the same organization since August 1998.
From 1992 to 1998, Réveillon was head of sport for France 2 and France 3. Previously he was director of France 3 Nord–Pas-de-Calais–Picardie and, from 1984 to 1990, head of business development for La Voix du Nord. From 1967 to 1984, Réveillon was, successively, a sports journalist, deputy manager, then manager of the Sports Service of La Voix du Nord and editor in chief of La Voix des Sports.
He has authored two books, LE DAKAR, UNE AVENTURE, UN RÊVE (1984 – Presse de la Cité) and LE DÉSERT AU CŒUR (1989 – Olivier Orban). Réveillon holds the Ordre national du mérite, and is winner of the Prix Henri Desgranges de l'Académie des Sports (1998), the Médaille d'Honneur du Sénat (1997) and the Trophée Lumière du Communicant Nord–Pas-de-Calais (1999).
The EBU (www.ebu.ch) is the largest professional association of national broadcasters in the world with 71 active members in 52 countries of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and 46 associate members in 29 countries further a field. The EBU was founded in February 1950 by western European radio and television broadcasters. It merged with the OIRT – its counterpart in Eastern Europe – in 1993.
Working on behalf of its members in the European area, the EBU negotiates broadcasting rights for major sports events, operates the Eurovision and Euroradio networks, organizes program exchanges, stimulates and coordinates co-productions and provides a full range of other operational, commercial, technical, legal and strategic services. At its office in Brussels, the EBU represents the interests of public service broadcasters before the European institutions.
