Sam Raimi and producer Bill Block (DISTRICT 9) are in talks with Warner Bros. on an alien invasion epic titled EDF, reports Vulture. Andrew Marlowe (AIR FORCE ONE) penned the script. Block's QED International will co-fund.

EDF stands for "Earth Defense Force." The story is described as a combination of TOP GUN, INDEPENDENCE DAY and THE LAST STARFIGHTER. In the story, an international conflict leads to U.S. and Chinese aircraft engaging in a dogfight. Suddenly, both sides are attacked by alien spacecraft on a mission to test Earth's defense capabilities. It's discovered that a massive invasion will take place in 10 months and the countries of Earth must ban together.
