NBC has ordered a pilot for the future-set drama BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE from COUGAR TOWN co-exec producer/director Michael McDonald, reports Deadline.com. The story follows androids and their second-class status to their human owners.

McDonald originally wrote the project a decade ago and set it up at ABC and ABC Studios two and a half years ago. ABC passed on the project, but ABC Studios decided to hold onto the rights.

ABC Studios and Universal TV are the studios.
