Jerry Robinson, who during his time as an artist on BATMAN helped create the Joker and Robin, has passed away, reports Heat Vision. He was 89.

At 17, he began on BATMAN as an inker for creator Bob Kane when DC Comics was known as National Comics. Throughout the Golden Age, he became a top artist, alongside Dick Sprang, on BATMAN. He was the one to suggest the name Robin for Batman's teenage sidekick.

Robinson advocated for artist rights, including the fight for proper credit and lifetime compensation for Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of SUPERMAN.
