David O. Russell is being eyed to take the helm of Disney’s MALEFICENT, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The live-action Sleeping Beauty story is told from the viewpoint of the witch Maleficent. Angelina Jolie has long been set to play the title character. Tim Burton had previously been attached but dropped out. Russell recently left Columbia's adaptation of the videogame UNCHARTERED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE.
