Deadline.com reports that Javier Bardem has been offered the lead role in Ron Howard's epic film and TV adaptation of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWERS. He would play Roland Deschain, the last of a line of gunslingers and the last hope for humanity.

Akiva Goldsman (A BEAUTIFUL MIND) has penned the first of three feature scripts and is working on the two seasons of the TV series. He is producing with Brian Grazer and King. Universal Pictures is producing the films, while NBC Universal Television Ent. is behind the TV series.

Imagine's Erica Huggins and Weed Road's Kerry Foster are the exec producers.
