Avatar Claims Spot as Top All-Time Grosser

In the end, James Cameron could only be outdone by himself. AVATAR surpassed TITANIC over the weekend, Jan. 29-31, all the all-time worldwide grosser with $2.04 billion so far. The film raked in $31.2 million and held on to its #1 spot for the seventh straight week.

EDGE OF DARKNESS claimed the #2 spot with $17.2 million for Warner Bros. during its first week. WHEN IN ROME earned $12.4 million and the #3 spot for Buena Vista.

THE TOOTH FAIRY grabbed the #4 spot for the second consecutive week and almost $10 million for Fox. THE BOOK OF ELI came in at #5 with $8.9 million for Warner Bros.

LEGION brought in $7.2 million and the #6 spot while THE LOVELY BONES dropped down to the #7 spot, earning $4.7 million for Paramount. SHERLOCK HOLMES was bumped down to #8 with $4.5 million for Warner Bros.

ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL earned nearly $4 million and the #9 spot for Fox. IT'S COMPLICATED brought in $3.8 million and rounded out the top ten for Universal.
