Ottawa Animation Fest Unveils 2015 Highlights

A star-studded list of animators is set to participate in this year’s festivities at OIAF 2015, including Bruce Bickford, Michael Kurinsky, Leah Shore, Patrick McHale, Sanjay Patel, Michèle Cournoyer and Kaspar Jancis.

OTTAWA -- From September 16-20, Ottawa audiences can enjoy some of the most cutting-edge, thoughtful, and outrageous animation from around the world as the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), North America’s leading animation event, comes to town. Now in its 39th year, the annual celebration of all that is animated promises something for everyone, including nearly 150 animated works, as well as opportunities to meet and mingle with animation’s most celebrated stars, studios and characters.

“We're pretty excited about the last year of our 30s,” says Chris Robinson, OIAF’s Artistic Director. “We've got fan favorites from the big studios, Oscar winners, along with our usual assortment of quirky, provocative work guaranteed to confuse, inspire and maybe even get under your skin a little bit.”

A star-studded list of animators will participate in this year’s festivities, including animation giants such as Bruce Bickford, Michael Kurinsky, Leah Shore, Patrick McHale, Sanjay Patel (U.S.), Michèle Cournoyer (Canada), and Kaspar Jancis (Estonia).

Directors from major studios such as the Cartoon Network, Disney, Pixar, Nickelodeon, and Sony Animated Pictures will also be in attendance for special screenings, talks and workshops, as well as the The Animation Conference (TAC), which runs parallel to OIAF, September 16-18 at Chateau Laurier.

OIAF Highlights for 2015 include:

  • An official feature film competition featuring four of the most interesting and original animated features from around the world.
  • Five official short film competitions featuring works selected by the OIAF programming team from over 2,000 entries.
  • Three showcase screenings featuring outstanding, new animated work from across Canada and around the world.
  • Eight special programs explore a wide range of animation styles and techniques and the work of today’s prominent animators.
  • A variety of entertaining programs and activities curated for young children, teenagers and families.
  • Dozens of engaging and informative presentations, talks and workshops designed to give audiences an inside look at some of animation’s biggest companies and schools, and a chance to meet celebrated personalities.
  • And many other exciting events and parties for professional animators, students and the general public taking place across Ottawa.
