Ottawa Festival Entry Deadline Fast Approaching

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) entry deadline is fast approaching for the 2008 event taking place Sept. 17-21, 2008. Each year, by the June 1 deadline, the OIAF receives over 2,000 entries. Only 100 are selected to be screened. Animators are invited to submit their recent work in six major categories including independent short films, feature films, new media, commissioned films (TV series, commercials, music video etc), student films and work made for children. There is no entry fee. Preview DVDs must be received by June 16.

Last year's event had a total attendance of over 27,000 with 1,500 industry passholders. The event features screenings, presentations, parties and the Television Animation Conference (Sept. 17 and 18). The 2008 Festival will feature retrospectives are on legendary U.S. animators Michael Sporn, Skip Battaglia and a tribute to Richard Williams. Plus, Animated Propaganda, Blue Toons: A Night of Naughty Animation, the New Wave of Japanese Animation and Animation Across Canada. Animated music videos are in the spotlight with retrospectives on Jonas Odell (Sweden) and Christopher Mills (Canada).
