Orphanage Founder to Direct TokyoPop Comic Adaptation

Former ILM staffer and Orphanage co-founder Scott Charles Stewart will direct PRIEST, an adaptation of horror Western comicbook from TokyoPop, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Stewart made his directorial debut on Screen Gems' 2010 biblical thriller LEGION, which he also wrote. He, along with Stu Maschwitz and Jonathan Rothbart, co-founded vfx house the Orphanage.

PRIEST is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between humans and vampires and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down the vampires that murdered his niece. The screenplay was written by Cory Goodman (THE BROOD).

Several years ago, actor Gerard Butler and Steven Strait tried to get the project going with director Andrew Douglas, but it fell apart.

PRIEST will be produced by Screen Gems with Michael De Luca and Stars Road Ent.'s Josh Donen producing. Mitchell Peck is also producing.
