Original Star Trek Lives Long and Prospers on DVD

The Original STAR TREK series continues to live long and prosper on DVD in newly remastered and complete series box sets. Paramount Home Ent. recently released the second and third season collections in time for the Holidays ($129.99 each).

STAR TREK was nearly cancelled by NBC after its first season, but was spared, thanks to a very aggressive letter writing campaign. Good thing too. It not only matured as a series but grew in cult stature as well. The seven-disc set contains 26 episodes, including I Mudd, Journey to Babel and The Trouble with Tribbles.

SECOND SEASON bonus features include:* To Boldly Go... Season Two* Life Beyond Trek: Leonard Nimoy* Kirk, Spock & Bones: Star Trek's Great Trio* Designing the Final Frontier* Star Trek's Divine Diva: Nichelle Nichols* Writer's Notebook: D.C. Fontana* Production art* Photo gallery* Preview trailers

THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON, meanwhile, was also the final one, as the network tightened the budgets and imposed more control. Among the 24 episodes, the eight-disc set includes two versions of The Cage pilot, The Paradise Syndrome and The Tholian Web.

THIRD SEASON bonus features include:* Gene Roddenberry's introduction to "The Cage"* To Boldly Go... Season Three* Life Beyond Trek: Walter Koenig* Chief Engineer's Log* Memoir from Mr. Sulu* Star Trek's Impact: Eugene Roddenberry's memories* A Star Trek Collector's Dream Come True* Production art* Red Shirt Logs
