NVIDIA & USC Partner on Technical Skill Building

NVIDIA Corp. and the USC School of Cinema-Television have formed a partnership that will provide students training on cutting-edge 3D graphics technology and the ability to graduate with the necessary skills to compete for highly sought-after positions in filmmaking, vfx and animation production, realtime content creation and other interactive industries.

"We welcome the opportunity to enhance the creative excellence of USC School of Cinema-Television students with hands-on technical skills," said Dan Vivoli, evp of marketing at NVIDIA. "We look forward to watching what the students do with such powerful technology and are expecting this to be the source of great innovation."

In addition to the technology access, the partnership involves the following: * NVIDIA will supply education materials and will also send employees to the USC School of Cinema-Television as guest professors for classes and labs in areas such as digital content creation, computer animation, film-quality rendering, editing, vfx and games/mobile media.* NVIDIA will sponsor research projects headed by USC School of Cinema-Television students.* The USC School of Cinema-Television will facilitate the selection of students for NVIDIA's internship program.

"Technology in the entertainment industry is developing at such a fast pace that we wanted to ensure our students were only working with the top products that leading companies had to offer," said Richard Weinberg, research professor, USC School of Cinema-Television and Annenberg Center for Communications. "This partnership with NVIDIA enables us to consistently put newer, faster, more capable technology in the hands of the students so that they can further push the boundaries of what's possible."

NVIDIA will provide the school with a variety of products and services, including the latest NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics solutions, and copies of NVIDIA's award-winning Gelato final-frame renderer.

In the 75 years since Douglas Fairbanks Sr., founding president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), spoke to the University of Southern California's first film class in 1929, the USC School of Cinema-Television has fueled and mirrored the growth of entertainment as an industry and an art form. The school offers comprehensive programs in directing, producing, writing, critical studies, animation and digital arts, production and interactive media.
