Buena Vistas family comedy starring Vin Diesel, THE PACIFIER proved too much for MGMs GET SHORTY sequel, BE COOL, in the battle of the post-Oscar box office openers for the weekend ended March 6, 2005. THE PACIFIER (with vfx by ILM) scored $30.5M to BE COOLS $23.4M. Coming in third was Sonys Will Smith hit, HITCH, which raked in another $12.1M for a cume of $138M. Last weeks number one finisher, DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN, fell to fourth and pulled in $11M and $37M to date for Lions Gate. Fresh from its Oscar triumph, MILLION DOLLAR BABY added $8.1M for Warner Bros. to finish fifth. The Clint Eastwood drama now has earned a cume of $76.6M. Warner Bros. CONSTANTINE (with vfx by by ESC Ent., Tippett Studio, Hydraulx and Spectrum Effects) slipped to sixth place with $6.1M and $60.6M. CURSED, the Wes Craven werewolf flick from Dimension (with vfx from Sony Pictures Imageworks and Patrick Tatopoulos) fell to seventh with $3.8M and a two-week cume of $15.2M. Sonys MAN OF THE HOUSE finished eighth with $3.5M and $13.9M. Foxs BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE settled for ninth with $3.2M and $26.7M.
