Northern Lights Post Adds New Visual Effects Design Department

Creative edit house Northern Lights Post has launched a visual effects design division, which will be headed by effects artist/designer Tera Petersen. Petersen's experience includes CG/design work on commercials for Pepsi, Doritos 3D and Fruitopia, among others. "This is a natural progression for Northern Lights," said Northern Lights co-founder/editor David Gioiella. "We have always been involved in the design process here on the editorial side, but now that we have Tera and invested in a state-of-the-art Discreet flint system we can expand to a greater level, while making it super-convenient for our clients to get things done and experiment with ideas." For Petersen, joining Northern Lights means the opportunity to work on a diverse number of projects from broadcast design to commercials to long-form television and feature film projects. Petersen recently completed spot work for Fruit by the Foot and Go-Gurt, through agency Saatchi and Saatchi, New York; designed a series of promos for the MTV series CRIBS; and designed graphics and menu elements for a DVD project for the Sci-Fi Channel. Petersen is currently working on a promo campaign for the second season launch of Bravo's original series THE IT FACTOR. Petersen started her career as a graphic designer and illustrator at Renee Mitchell Design, a Chicago-based design firm/advertising agency before transitioning into the video world. Moving to New York in 1990, she trained at Manhattan Transfer and in 1993 joined Click 3X, New York, where she worked for two years. After five years of freelancing at effects houses including Quiet Man, R/GA Spontaneous Combustion, Black Logic and Creative Bubble, Petersen then joined the staff of SMA, New York before coming to Northern Lights. Northern Lights Post is a creative editorial house, specializing in advertising, broadcast promos and long-form television and feature film projects.
